What can/ cannot be framed?

Over the years we have framed pretty much everything. The word “frame” often conjures an image of something flat and rectangular, but it doesn’t have to be. Call us or bring your project to our shop and with your items on our design table, we can provide recommendations on how to bring attention, while protecting and enhancing the item(s) being framed.

How much does it cost?

Ah, this one is always such a difficult question to answer because the size of the item being framed and the materials selected vary so much. We can provide the most accurate quote if you can come in, let us measure your piece and then you select a few frames that you like. Once we have an understanding of what look you are trying to achieve and what materials you like, we can provide feedback on how to get the project into a price range that’s comfortable for you. We want you to love your project and there is absolutely no cost to you for coming in and discussing options with us.

How long will it take?

Generally it takes about 2-3 weeks to receive your customized materials and build your frame. If you are in a rush, we do have a small supply of inhouse materials to choose from and build your project within a few days. Around the holidays, lead times may be a little longer.

How do I know my project is in good hands?

We are the only frame shop in the greater Austin area where all of the framers have passed the rigorous Certified Picture Framer® (CPF®) exam, which tests their skills and techniques and ensures their work is of the highest quality. The CPF® examination was developed in 1986 in conjunction with Educational Testing Services (ETS) to provide professional recognition to individuals successfully completing the established criteria.

I’m design challenged, do you help?

Yes! Some of our framers have art degrees and others have been framing for over 20 years! This is your project and we want you to love it. To get started we will ask you a few questions, provide some suggestions and then get your feedback. All you have to do is be open to sharing with us what you like and don’t like, we will do the rest.

When it comes to designing/building a frame, what really matters?

Clients want to know: Do they need to use a mat? Why use preservation or conservation techniques? Do they really need “museum quality” or UV glass?

Based on what is it that you bring in, we can walk you through all the decisions that matter for your item to be framed. There’s usually more than one way we can frame an item. We can explain the pros and cons of your options and price out these options, at no cost to you.

Do you deliver and install artwork?

We refer our clients to the following two companies. While we cannot guarantee their work, we have been referring clients to both of these companies for many years and hear very positive feedback. We can coordinate the delivery and/ or install for you or you can contact them directly, whichever is most convenient for you.

The elements of custom Framing

If you’re new to custom framing, here’s a brief tour of the materials and considerations used in the design and creation of your custom frame.

Moulding

We source materials from all over the country to hand-build your custom frame.

Old wood, new wood, MDF, metal – we have over 1,000 options to pick from.

Matting

Linen, silk, hemp, basketball leather – matting comes in many exciting textures, materials and colors. And with our computerized mat cutter, we can create really interesting unique designs.

Glazing

We offer TRUE-VUE anti-reflective and conservation grade glass and acrylic. They are engineered with 99% UV protection to keep damaging rays off your precious artworks, keepsakes and collectibles so they may be enjoyed and cherished for years to come.

Fit & Finishing

As one of the final steps, we put a ‘dust-seal’ across the back to protect your piece. Lastly, we will recommend a hanging system, such as corner brackets or wire, based on the size and weight of your project.
